The “Sunrise Side” of Michigan (northeastern shoreline area) has always been dear to me. While growing up, my four siblings and I spent our entire summers at our grandparents’ cottage on Lake Huron. During the years since, I would visit the area as often as I could. In August 2006, my husband Bill and I had the blessed opportunity to “retire” to northern Michigan from downstate Michigan.
Each day, since moving to Tawas City, we enjoy what nature has to offer. We live on Tawas River and feed the birds. Needless to say, we have feathered friends in our yard each day year-round. In addition, as a member of the local AuSable Valley and Michigan Audubon, I have learned so much more about many of the nature preserves we have as well as what a great birding area.
The result over living on the Sunrise Side affords me the opportunity to blend my life-long interest in photography with my love of nature and the outdoors. The beauty of our four seasons, breathtaking sunrises, area sites and parks, wildflowers, birds, butterflies, deer and other critters, are all here to enjoy and offer endless “photo opportunities.”
With all the positive feedback and support that I received from the photographs I have taken during the past two years, my husband and I started our own business. Sunrise Side Snapshots was established in February 2008. During 2008, we enjoyed meeting with many visitors and customers during the area arts and crafts fairs. In August 2008, I placed 2nd in Photography at the 48th Annual Tawas Bay Waterfront Fine Arts Festival – my first juried show. I was honored indeed! In January 2009, we decided to take Sunrise Side Snapshots to the next level — our website was created. As a result, we hope to reach out and share the beauty of the Sunrise Side through our photography with folks who live, work, vacation, visit or plan to visit the area, or otherwise enjoy nature’s awesome beauty.
